We have a number of regular sports hosted here at The Mangawhai Club. This is a great way to socialise and meet new people, and an opportunity to hone your sporting skills! Use the links below to learn more about each of our sports, and please contact us if you have any questions!
Bowls
The official opening for the bowls clubhouse and green was on 3rd December 1994, after many years based in Hakaru. A second green was completed in the 1996 season. Today we have one of the finest facilities around! Our greens are in demand for many Centre fixtures and our clubhouse used for many private functions.
October 2002 saw the beginning of a new era, with the formation of a Chartered Club - what we now know as The Mangawhai Club!
In 2018 both Men’s & Women’s Bowling Clubs amalgamated into Mangawhai Bowls Inc.
Come and join Mangawhai Bowls - we enjoy our weekly Club Days along with many tournaments played at home and away. Men’s Bowls: Contact Dave Frame 027 266 4688. Women’s Bowls: Contact Sue Belin 021 242 5212.
We also meet every Tuesday during summer 6pm - 7pm for Business House Bowls. This is a social evening of fun. Contact Lyn Joyce 027 313 3059.

Petanque
From a small beginning four years ago (6 people) the Petanque Club has gone from strength to strength. On a typical Club day there can be up to 48 players on the terrains.
We are well served with 8 terrains that have been upgraded – the base is lime rock, then crushed shells have been scattered so this combines well for a very competitive surface.
Summer Petanque is played each Thursday after Labour Weekend from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. Membership is free; however, unless you are a visitor, you need to belong to the Mangawhai Club. A nominal fee ($3pp) is charged to play Petanque each week and there are fun prizes to be won.
Winter Petanque commences after daylight saving finishes, and runs each Sunday from 3pm to 4pm. Be there by 2:50pm.
Our Petanque meeting is a relaxed and social gathering. (No experience needed to join us). The Club has Petanque Boule available to use should you wish to have a game when visiting The Club. We also enjoy hosting visiting clubs and have had several visits from Northland Clubs.

Darts
The Mangawhai Club Darts meet each Monday at 5:30pm. Play gets underway at 6:00pm. Formats of play for the night are dictated by numbers of players who turn up.
COST– no joining fee/$2 per night. Just turn up on the night. You will be made welcome. Play lasts 2-3 hours.

Pool
Pool club night is Thursday - $20 annual membership to join. Weekly 8-ball competition is $5 to enter and play, with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Names in by 5:30pm for a 6pm start. You are welcome to arrive earlier for some practice games.
We have home and away games against other clubs and pubs throughout the year.
